We are looking forward to working with you and your child this year. The following is some information that we hope will be helpful in acquainting you with our school.
HOURS: Kindergarten is all day from 9:00-3:00 p.m. Children should arrive between 8:45-9:00. Children should not arrive at school before 8:45 a.m. because there is no ADULT SUPERVISION BEFORE THAT TIME.
TARDY: It is important that children arrive on time for school each day. School starts promptly at 9:00 a.m. Your child is considered tardy if he/she arrives after that time. If your child is late, due to a medical appointment, please check in at the office. Someone from the office will walk your child to class. Due to issues related to safety, parents are not permitted to come down to the classrooms without a visitor’s pass. If you are picking up your child, please wait in the office. If you are a volunteer, please stop in the office, sign in and pick up a visitor’s badge. Your child’s welfare is our priority, and we really appreciate your cooperation in this matter.
ABSENT: If your child will not be in school please call the school absent line at 642-7130 and leave your child’s name, teacher’s name and reason for absence. When your child returns to school a note must be sent in stating the reason for the absence. Please check the handbook for a list of "EXCUSED ABSENCES".
BUS PICKUP POLICY: The bus company will not allow a kindergarten student to be dropped off at the bus stop unless an adult is there to meet them. If someone other than the parent will be meeting the child, the school and bus company must be notified in writing.
PROGRAMS: Our program includes teacher guided lessons, small group activities, group play, individual exploration and discovery. We follow the kindergarten Common Core State Standards. We will be using the Pearson Reading Street Literacy Program. We use the Handwritin Without Tears to teach handwriting skills. We use Envisions by Pearson Press to teach math skills. We use hand2mind science kits. The children will be working in learning centers. Each center has an activity for the children to work on in a small group setting.
VOLUNTEERS: If you are interested in volunteering at school, please notify your child’s classroom teacher. All parents must complete a CORI check before working in the school or accompanying the class on a field trip. It takes approximately two weeks to process the CORI form, so please fill the paperwork out early in the year, if you are planning to volunteer.
TOYS KEPT AT HOME: Parents are asked not to allow children to bring toys from home.
NO SCHOOL: School closings are broadcast on local TV and radio stations, and you will receive an automated phone call if there is an early morning delay or a full-day closing.
NOTES: A note is required if your child will not be taking their bus home or if someone other than a parent is picking them up. Except in an emergency, we cannot accept a change of dismissal plan unless the information is in writing.
BREAKFAST/LUNCH: Breakfast is offered each morning in the cafeteria from 8:45-9:00 a.m. The cost of breakfast is $1.00. Our scheduled lunch time is from 11:30-12:00 p.m. The children can bring their lunch from home (cold lunch) or order hot lunch at school. The cost is $2.30 per lunch and milk may be purchased separately for $0.45. You may pay for the lunch by the day or send in any amount which will be applied to your child’s cafeteria account. When the account is empty the lunch room staff will notify you. Please put all money in an envelope labeled with your child’s name, room number, and what is to be purchased; i.e. breakfast, lunch, or milk. Please make sure this envelope is in your child’s folder.
A menu will be sent home each month and is also available on the school website.
RECESS: We will be having one recess daily and one group activity time.
SNACK: Please refer to your individual classroom teacher for snack procedures.
CHANGE OF CLOTHING: Please send your child to school with an extra pair of socks, underwear, shirt, and pants in the event of an accident or spill. Please keep these items in a labeled Ziploc bag in their backpack.
SCHOOL SUPPLIES: Please refer to individual classroom teacher. See attached supply list.
PROGRESS REPORTS AND PARENT CONFERENCES: We will be having scheduled parent conferences and progress reports throughout the year.
SPECIALS: Each week the children will have Art, Gym, Health, Music, and Technology. A schedule will come home with your child.
LIBRARY: We will visit the school library each week. The children are allowed to borrow one book each week if they return their library book from the previous week.
VISION AND HEARING SCREENING: All children will have their vision and hearing screening with Mrs. Patricia McGovern. You will be notified by our school nurse if there is a concern.
PARAPROFESSIONALS IN OUR CLASSROOMS: This year, each kindergarten will be staffed with one teacher and one highly qualified paraprofessional. This staffing will provided our children with additional adult assistance as they learn the all important skills that are building blocks to their future educational success.
